How is it possible that only 1 egg is released from the ovary in a month, when there are 2 functional ovaries in a human female? Is it possible that 2 eggs are released from the ovaries( one from each) at the same time during menstruation?

Solution

Ovulation is the process of maturing and release of the egg from the ovary. It happens generally on the 14th day of the menstrual cycle. The whole menstrual cycle is of 28 days and so we can say one egg can be released by a ovary per month. But there are two ovaries which release egg alternatively i.e each ovary releases one egg in alternate months. Thus, in normal cases, there are least chances that both the ovary will release eggs simultaneously.
