Question

how rutherford proved that positively charged particles are present in the nucleus of atom

Open in App
Solution

In Rutherford's experiment, when α-particles were bombarded a thin foil of metal as Gold nearly 100mm thick, then some of the α-particles were deflected back it means they must got striked to some heavy particles. These heavy particles were called as nucleus. And α-particles are positively charged and if these are reflected back which shows that there must be some positive charge present inside the nucleus.
