To find the structure and hybridization of IO4- we take the following steps as:

Total no. of valence electrons = 7 (for I) + 4x6(for O) = 31

No. of ions = 1

So, total available electrons = 31+1=32

Total bond pairs = total no. of atoms -1 =5-1=4

Hybridization = sp3

Structure = Tetrahedral

Electrons consumed in bond formation = 8x4 = 32

So lone pair = 0

Hence, shape is same as structure i.e. tetrahedral.
