Question

How would an ecosystem comprising of grasslands be affected if all carnivores were removed.

Open in App
Solution

If all the carnivores are removed from the grassland ecosystem then the herbivores would increase in number as there would be nobody to feed on them and hence their populaation would increase tremendously. Increased number of herbivores would put presseure on the primary producers or plants of the ecosystem for nutrition and their number would also decrease. Ultimately food will fall short for herbivores which may start dying due to lack of nutrition and competition.
