Question

Hydrogen is metal or nonmetal?

Open in App
Solution

Hydrogen can act either like a metal or a non metal. It acts like a non metal because it lacks important properties of metals like malleability, ductility; metallic sound etc. However under conditions of low temperatures and high pressure, hydrogen becomes a solid metal that looks like and acts like other metal. In terms of chemistry H can either act as an electron donor which is typical of metals or an electron recipient, typical of non metals.
