If a plant cell has a cell wall, then can it defend itself against viruses?

Plant cell wall is a rigid structure and definitely it acts as a deterrent in the transmission of viruses from one cell to another but even with its rigidity cell wall is not able counter the menace of viral infection as virus modify themselves to find their way through other sources.
