If fungi posess a separate kingdom, then why it comes under kingdom plantae?

Fungi are placed independently in a separate kingdom, they are not considered under kingdom plantae because they are not autotrophic means they cannot synthesise their own food and their cell wall is made up of chitin not cellulose unlike plants.
