in order to obtain the F1 generation memdel pollinated a pure breeding tall plant with a pure breeding dwarf plant.But for getting the F2 generation,he simply self pollinated the tall F1 plants.Why

When a true breeding tall plant is crossed with a true breeding dwarf plant, all the plants produced in F1 are tall. But as another character (dwarf) is also there in the cross, he performed a test cross by allowing the F1 plants to self pollinate to extract out another character which was hidden (recessive) in F1.
