European style of painting was based on realism based on the belief that artists had to carefully observe and depict what they saw. The European painters were also more inclined to use oil painting.
Indian artists were skilled at creating miniatures. The scroll painters developed a new style of art. The images, however, were not life-like. In this sense, they differed from Europeans. Many Indian paintings carried themes from Indian mythology, local plants and animals, buildings and festivals.
