The iris is a thin, circular structure in our eye that is responsible for controlling the diameter as well as the size of the pupil and thus it also controls the amount of light that reaches the retina of the eye. Moreover, the pupil is a hole situated at the centre of the iris of the eye so as to allow the light to enter the retina of the eye. As most of the light entering our eyes does not escape therefore our pupil looks black in colour. The iris expands or contract in response to light coming onto it. The iris is small and the pupil becomes large in dim or dark light and vice-versa in bright light. That is in a dim light, our pupil expands in order to allow more light to enter our eye rather in bright light, it contracts i.e., in bright light.
