Question

is pyruvate and pyruvic acid are same

Open in App
Solution

Pyruvic acid and pyruvate are not exactly similar. Pyruvic acid is an organic acid with the formula CH3COCOOH, while pyruvate is the carboxylate anion of pyruvic acid (CH3COCOO-) which is formed as a result of removal of proton from pyruvic acid.

Both these terms are used interchangeably as pyruvic acid is present mostly in anionic form in cells and used for the further reactions in anionic form.
