Question

It is established taht an electrical current through a metallic conductor produces a magnetic field around it.Is there a similar magnetic field produces around a thin beam of moving i) alpha particles,ii)neutrons?justify your answer

Solution

Its only moving charged particles that constitute electric and magnetic field in a region of space. So, electrons moving in a conducting wire would constitute an electromagnetic wave; mixture of electric and magnetic radiation.

Now, as alpha particle has a net positive charge while moving it will constitute em waves while neutron, which is neutral (no charge), will not.
