Solution
Blood has a short shelf storage life. RBC's can be stored from 21 to 40 days only. Once outside the body an anticoagulant like Acid Citrate Dextrose (ACD) or Citrated Phosphate Dextrose (CPD) is added in order to prevent the blood from clotting.
