Question

List the dual role of deoxyribonucleoside triphosphates in DNA replication.

Open in App
Solution

Deoxyribonucleoside triphosphate may be considered as building blocks in DNA synthesis. Two important role played by dNTPs, during replication are as follows-
  • It act as substrate during DNA replication.
  • It provides energy for polymerisation reaction. This nucleotide has three phosphate group. During the process of polymerisation two of its phosphate groups break off to provide energy.
