A deoxynucleoside triphosphate is a nucleotide containing 3 phosphate groups attached to the 5' carbon of the deoxyribose sugar of the nucleoside. It has mainly two roles:
  • They are the building blocks of the DNA strand.
  • They also serve as the energy provider in the form of GTP and ATP.
