(a) Mr. Iyer is sufferring from viral infection.
(b) Antibiotics are classified into two types according to their mode of action:
Bactericidal: These antibiotics kill the bacteria.
Bacteriostatic: These antibiotics arrest the growth of bacteria.
Doctor would not continue the antibiotic further. In fact, antibiotics are ineffective against cold infection.
