After the implementation of PDS for many years it was observed that its benefits were not reaching to certain vulnerable sections of the population due to their disadvantageous geographical location, lower purchasing power, and lack of communication etc. Therefore, to ensure that the benefits of public distribution system reaches out to the remotest corner of the country the Revamped Public Distribution System (RPDS) was introduced. It was to reach the remotest areas of the country like tribal, arid, hill and remotely located area.
