Question

Two identical resistors , each of resistance 10ohm are connected

( i) in series

(ii) in parallel , in turns to a battery of 6 volt

CAlculate the ratio of power consumed in the combination of resistors in two cases

Open in App
Solution

Here,

R1 = 10Ω

R2 = 10Ω

V = 6 volts

Eqv. resistance in series combination = 10 + 10

Rs = 20Ω

Ps = V2/Rs

= 62/20

= 36/20 W

Eqv. resistance in parallel combination = 10×10/(10+10)

Rp = 5Ω

Pp = V2/Rp

= 62/5

= 36/5 W

Pp/Ps = (36/20)/(36/5)

= 1/4

Pp:Ps = 1:4
