Question

.An electric kettle rated 1000W, 220V is used to bring water at 20 degrees to its boiling point. If the kettle is switched on for 10 minutes. Calculate:

  1. The resistance of the element of kettle

  2. Current flowing through the element

Mass of water in the kettle.

Solution

Power = V2/R
2202/R = 1000
R = 48.4 ohm

I2R = Power = I2*48.4 = 1000
4.54 A = I

I2Rt = mC(T2-T1)
4.542*48.4*10*60 = m*4.186*80
1787 gms = m
So, the weight of water being heated is 1.7 kgs
