ten years ago manish was 12 times as old his son and after 10 years he will be twise as his old as his son . find his recent age

Let the present age of Manish = x years

and present age of his son = y years

Case 1:

(x - 10) = 12(y - 10)

⇒ x - 10 = 12y - 120

⇒ x - 12y = -110 .... (1)

Case 2:

(x + 10) = 2(y + 10)

⇒ x - 2y = 10 .... (2)

On subtracting (2) from (1), we get

x - 12y - (x - 2y) = -110 - 10

⇒ - 10y = -120

⇒ y = 12

On putting y in (2), we get

x - 24 = 10

⇒ x = 34

Hence, age of Manish = x = 34 years and

age of his son = y = 12 years
