Question

The purity of H2O2 in a given sample is 85% . What is the weight of the impure sample of H2O2 which requires 10 ml of 1 N KMNO4 in a titration in acidic medium.

Open in App
Solution

In titration:
Meq H2O2 = Meq KMnO4If w is the mass of sample of H2O2, then:w34/2 x 1000 = 10 x 1 ( equivalent mass H2O2 = molar mass/2 =34/2) w = 0.17 g

Mass of 100% pure H2O2 required = 0.17 g
Mass of 85% pure H2O2 required = 0.17 x (100/85)
= 0.2 g

Thus, weight of impure sample of H2O2 = 0.2 g
