Question

the rotor of an helicopter exters an upward force of 5000N and gravity exerts a downward pull of 4000N

(i) what is the work done by th rotorswhen the helicopter has ascended by 100MD ?

(ii) what is work done by gravity during the displacement

Solution

The rotor pushes the helicopter upwards due to which it moves upward.

Force by rotor = 5000 N (upward)

Displacement = 100 m (upward)

Work done by rotor = (5000)(100) = 500000 J

Force of gravity pulls the helicopter downward but the helicopter moves upward.

Force of gravity = -4000 N (negative sign comes because it is in downward direction)

Displacement = 100 m (upward)

Work done by gravity = (-4000)(100) = -400000 J
