Solution

Ans The surface of lakes appears green due to presence of flowing particles of green algae.

Flow of energy from one trophic level to other follows the law of 10% energy transfer i.e only 10% of energy gets transferred to next level. So , in the given case, if the tertiary consumer gets 0.2 J of energy from the secondary consumer, then the amount of energy absorbed by secondary consumer from primary conumer should be 2 J and the amount of energy taken in by primary consumer ( herbivore) from plants should be 20 J. The amount of energy absorbed from the sun by the plant( producer) should be 200 J in the given case.

Of the incident solar radiation less than 50 per cent of it is photosynthetically active radiation (PAR). Plants capture only 2-10 per cent of the PAR . According to the given relationship, the amount of energy radiated by the Sun on the plants should be 4000 J in the given case.
