Beats are formed when two sound waves of nearly same frequencies and amplitude superimpose on each other.

At a time only two sound wave can produce beats.

When the wave of frequencies,

v and (v-1) are superimposed,

Number of beats per sec is given by the difference in the frequency,

One beat per sec in this case.
