Question

Two resistors of 10 ohm and 20 ohm are connected in series to a 20 V battery. Calculate the potential difference across the 10 ohm resistor.

Open in App
Solution

The details of the circuit are as follows:
Resistance, R1 10 Ω
Resistance, R2 20 Ω
Voltage 20 V

Since the resistors are in series so the equivalent resistance, R = R1 + R2 = 10 + 20 = 30 Ω
Therefore, we can find the current in the circuit by using Ohm's law:
V = I R
I = V/R = 20/30 = 2/3 A
Therefore, the potential difference across the R1 resistor,
V1=IR1=23×10=203 V
