Question

What are covalent and ionic bonds? Which is stronger and why?

Open in App
Solution

Ionic bond- The bond formed due to the transfer of electrons from one of the bonding atoms to the other.

Covalent bond- The bond formed due the sharing of electrons between two atoms.

Generally, covalent bond is stronger than ionic bond since it involves the overlap of atoms whereas the ions in an ionic bond are attached due to electrostatic force of attraction only.
