what are intermolecular forces? how are these related to the three states of matter
Dear student!
The force of attraction through which one molecule is attached to the other is known as intermolecular force. These forces are only responsible for the different states of matter, as if , the force is stronger, the molecule will come closer and the matter become solid, while if the force is weaker then the molecules remain attached but not so closer and so the matter becomes liquid and when this force is nearly zero the molecules become free and move randomly and the matter is called in gaseous form.
