The central nervous system consists of the brain and the spinal cord.
It is the integration and command centre of the body
The functions of the central nervous system are:
1. The spinal cord conducts the sensory information from the peripheral nervous system to the brain.
2 The spinal cord conducts the motor information from the brain to muscles, glands.
3 Spinal cord acts as the minor reflex centre.
4 The brain receives the sensory input from the spinal cord. The brain controls most of the body functions, such as voluntary movements such as walking, speaking, and perception of sensations, memory, emotions and thoughts.
5 The hypothalamus of the brain interacts with the autonomic nervous system. It maintains homeostasis; it decreases or increases the metabolism in order to regulate body activities.
