  1. From the early rule of kings, caste system prevailed
  2. There were inequalities in this system and people of lower castes, known as untouchables, were humiliated and were not allowed to enter temples
  3. To remove these disparities, many social reformers like Dr. B. R. Ambedkar started temple entry movement in 1927
  4. By this movement, Dalits and people belonging to the caste of Ambedkar, the Mahar caste could enter temple and pay their respects to God like other castes of people
  5. Dalits used temple tanks in this movement and the main aim of Ambedkar was to make everyone observe the prejudices of caste within a society
