what effects did the reformers have on the indian society? brief answer
All aspects of Indian society were touched by the works of reformers. There were religious reformers like Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and Swami Vivekananda who simplified religion to appeal to the common man. Social reformers like Dayanand Saraswati, Raja Ram Mohan Roy and Ishwar Chandra Vidya Sagar fought against evils of the society like casteism, Sati system and deplorable conditions of widows respectively. Their contributions to the society through Arya Samaj and Brahmo Samaj radicalised a large section of population. Important legislations banning Sati and child marriage and permission for widow remarriage were brought about. They also strived towards educating widows and the oppressed populace at large. Educational institutions were established and education and learning became accessible to all.
