Connective tissue supports and connects different types of tissues and organs of the body. Their main functions are:

  1. To connect different types of tissues and organs.
  2. To provide structural framework of the body.
  3. To store energy.

Blood is known as a fluid connective tissue because it has matrix or ground substance in the form of fluid called plasma and it connects various body tissues and organs together by bringing the oxygen, hormones and various nutrients. Also, all the connective tissue originate from the mesodermal layer of the embryo and as blood also originate from the same, thus it is considered as the connective tissue.
