Question

What happens to its pole strength and magnetic dipole when a bar magnet is halved vertically through centre of its pole?

Open in App
Solution

Here, we cut a bar magnet along its length into two pieces, thus, the pole strength of each new magnet is half the pole strength of original magnet and hence magnetic moment {M = m(2l), where m is the strength of either pole and 2 l is the magnetic length} is also halved.
