Question

What happens when bromine attacks CH2 = CH CH2 C≡Η

Open in App
Solution

As alkene is more reactive than alkyne due to longer bond length bromination will occur at double bond (C1) first

Thus the product formed will be as follows,

CH2 = CH CH2-C≡CΗ + Br2 ---------> BrCH2-CH(Br)-CH2-C≡CΗ

(Note: If bromine is in excess, then only it will attack the triple bond and give addition product but it will be very unstable hence not shown)
