what is the difference between alpha and beta ligands? why human digestive system can take only alpha ligands?
Dear student!
Ligands are the simple molecules which are attached to the receptors like α-receptors and β-receptors to make a complex molecule.
So, for convenience, we can say the ligands at α-receptors as α-ligands and those with β-receptors as β-ligands.
In general α-receptors mediate excitation or increased activity of the effector cells while those of β-receptors mediate relaxation or decreased activity of effector clls.
Since, digestion needs activation in the effector cells ,s o they use α-receptors and hence α-ligends are used only.
