Question

What is the difference between electronegativity and electron affinity?

Open in App
Solution

When an electron is added to a neutral atom or a molecule energy is released. This energy released is called electron affinity. It is measured when they are in gaseous state.

Electronegativity is defined as the tendency of atoms or groups to attract electron/s or electron density towards itself. It does not measure energy.
