what is the difference between turgor pressure and pressure potential
Turgor pressure | Pressure potential |
It is the pressure exerted due to osmotic entry of water from a region of high water potential to low water potential. | Due to the entry of water into a plant cell, the cytoplasm exerts a pressure known as pressure potential. |
Due to turgor pressure the plasma membrane is pushed against the cell walls. | When water passes through the cell wall and cell membrane, the total amount of water present in the cell increases which causes exertion of an outward pressure. |
It is responsible for extension in cell. | Plant maintains turgor using pressure potential. |
