What is the role of cervix of the human female system in reproduction?

Cervix contain cervical canal connecting uterus to vagina through which sperm passes to fertilise egg. Cervix contain several glands which secrete mucus. Mucus act as transport medium for sperm during ovulation. At other times, mucus become thick, acidic and thus act as a barrier for sperm entry. Cervix become softer and dilate in diameter to assist easier child birth.
