Clayey and loamy soil have good water retaining power so they are good for cereals like wheat, gram and paddy etc. In case of paddy, soil which is rich in clay and organic matter along with good water retaining capability is required.
Loamy soils are good for pulses because loamy soil drain water very easily.
Sandy or sandy loamy soil are good for crops like cotton as they need moisture and good amount of air same time. Sandy soil drains water easily and they hold plenty of air also which is good for cotton.
Loamy soil is good for wheat as loamy soil is rich in nutrients
