Why do crops grown in Sandy soil needs more irrigation than crops grown in clayey soil?

Open in App
Solution

The main reason why the plants grown in sandy soil needs more frequent irrigation than the clayey soil is because the sandy soil has less water holding capacity, means it can't hold water seepage properly which results in the less absorbtion by plants.
sandy soil is not permeable , it does not have water holding capacity , where clay soil is highly permeable by waterholding capacity. so crops grown in Sandy soil needs more irrigation than crops grown in clayey soil
