The different battles that were raging between Anne's mind and heart dealt with the clash of rationality over her emotions. Sometimes she feared that her emotions would get the upper hand but more often, she would actually hope that they did. She could not talk to anyone about these dilemmas, she had to act during the daytime as if everything she had said and done in her dreams had never taken place.
However, she took control of the situation by writing down all her thoughts and feelings failing which she would have suffocated.
