Question

WHAT WOULD HAPPEN TO THE LIFE OF A CELL IF THERE WAS NO GOLGI APPARATUS?

Open in App
Solution

Golgi apparatus:

  1. If there was no Golgi apparatus in the cell, then most activities performed by the Golgi apparatus will not take place.
  2. Packaging and modification of products are affected: Membranes of the Golgi apparatus are often connected to ER membranes.
  3. It collects simpler molecules and combines them to make more complex molecules.
  4. These are then packaged in small vesicles and are either stored in the cell or sent out as per the requirement.
  5. Thus, if the Golgi apparatus is absent in the cell, then the above process of storage, modification, and packaging of products will not take place in the cell.
  6. Absence of lysosomes: Golgi plays important role in formation of lysosomes.
  7. There will be no formation of lysosomes, so digestion of food, worn out organelles, etc. will get affected.
  8. This would ultimately lead to the death of the cell.
