Who discovered the circulation of blood?
The earliest known writings on the circulatory system are found in the Ebers Papyrus , an ancient Egyptian medical papyrus. In the papyrus, it acknowledges the connection of the heart to the arteries. Similarly, in the 6th century BC, the knowledge of circulation of vital fluids through the body was believed to be known to the Ayurvedic physician Sushruta in ancient India.
There were many scientists with their own theories on the function and purpose of the heart and blood but the most credential work was done by William Harvey. He studied the heart and blood movement and revolutionized thinking on heartbeat, pulse and blood movement. He concluded upon his dissections, demonstrations and studies of other scientists’ works, the circulatory system and circulation of blood as we know it now.
