Chera kingdom had been ruled by many kings and the exact chronology is still not known but Uthiyan Cheralatan (Perum Chorru Udiyan Cheralathan, Athan I is known to be the first recorded Chera ruler in ancient South India. Kuzhumur in central Kerala was his capital. He had expanded his kingdom towards the north and east from his original homeland.
