why do covalent compounds exists in liquid or gaseous state?

The covalent compounds have strong covalent bonds between the atoms in a molecule. But the intermolecular forces (the forces between individual molecules of a compound) are weak. Therefore, they have low melting and boiling points. and exists in gas and liquid phase as well.
