Definition of Solids

Solids are state of matter in which molecules vibrate at their respective fixed position and don't migrate to different places. It retain its shape which has physical touch of shape and structure.

This means solids have open surface as it has shape and structure. Whereas gases don't have fixed shape and structure for open surface.
