Why does a dry apricot placed in salt solution does not swell while they do so when kept in water ?

Apricot in the salt solution does not swell, because the outer solution is hypertonic. The water moves from the hypotonic to the hypertonic solution. And that is why it swells in the water, because water is hypotonic than the inner apricot medium.
