why does geitonogamy leads to inbreeding depression?

Geitonogamy means cross pollination between the flowers of same plant. This does not bring any genetic variation. Because of less genetic variation it will lead to inbreeding depression. The higher the genetic variation, lesser will be chance of suffering from inbreeding depression.
