why is algae not included in the kingdom plantae?

Algae are unicellular prokaryotes. They lack nucleus and other membrane bound organelles like mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, etc. While kingdom plantae are multicellular eukaryotes. So, Algae can not be placed in kingdom plantae.
