Why is anaerobic respiration less efficient?
Anaerobic respiration is a process in which energy is released from glucose without requiring oxygen. It takes place in the cytoplasm. It coverts glucose into ethanol and carbon dioxide. It is less efficient than aerobic respiration as it releases less energy than the energy released in aerobic respiration. It uses other less oxidising compounds in place of oxygen, like nitrates and sulphates, which have low reduction potential than oxygen. Thus releasing less energy.
