Question

Why is vernalisation applicable to only temperate and arctic plants and not to tropical plants?

Open in App
Solution

Vernalisation is the phenomenon of dependence of flowering on exposure to low temperature. The tropical plants grow in the hot zones of the earth. They do not experience the chilling cold temperature like temperate and arctic plants. So, vernalisation is not applicable to tropical plants. Only in the highest elevations in the tropics, where winters are adequately chilly, some plants which require vernalisation treatment can grow.
